Stepping out of the Shadows

Stepping out of the Shadows: insights into self-stigma and madness, is a collection of articles, essays and personal accounts about self-stigma associated with mental illness. Self-stigma is a relatively new topic for the mental health and social sectors and it is hoped that this book will appeal to a broad cross section of people from all walks of life.

The chapters of this book explore the concept of self-stigma from the perspective of authors who have experience of mental illness, or have researched self-stigma, or both. Those who contributed to the book include: Mary O’Hagan, Dr Lynne Pere, Anne Helm, Vito Malo, Dean Manley, Ivan Yeo, Sarah O’Connor, Dennis Duerr, Niki Smith, Ruth Jackson and Alex Barnes.
