Mental Health Awareness Week 2018 theme announced!

It’s that time of year! Mental Health Awareness Week (MHAW) is back on 8–14 October 2018 and we’re pleased to share the theme: Let nature in, strengthen your wellbeing – Mā te taiao kia whakapakari tōu oranga!

From learning about native birds and picking herbs from the garden to seeing the sunset from the kitchen window, we saw how you embraced nature last year. So, this year we wanted to remind you how it can grow, support and nurture your wellbeing.

In the lead-up to MHAW, we’ll be giving you tips on how to use the Five Ways to Wellbeing in nature – these are five simple actions you can use every day to boost your wellbeing.

We know connecting with nature promotes positive mental health, and research shows the Five Ways to Wellbeing (Give, Connect, Keep Learning, Be Active, Take Notice) help people find balance, build resilience and boost mental wellbeing – so we’ve combined the two!

This MHAW, we’ll help you to Let Nature In using the Five Ways to Wellbeing. Regardless of how much or little you interact with nature, you can still make them work for you.

Register for updates and you’ll be the first to know when MHAW resources are ready to download and order, and when entries for the photo, workplace and colouring competitions open. Plus, you’ll stay updated on exciting MHAW events all over the country!

For any general enquiries about MHAW 2018, including events and ordering resources, please email MHAW@mentalhealth.org.nz.

*For the first time, we’re running a workplace competition during MHAW 2018! More information about this fun challenge is coming soon – make sure you register for updates to be kept in the loop.

MHAW is endorsed by the World Federation for Mental Health, is marked in over 150 countries at different times of the year and in New Zealand, the Mental Health Foundation has organised MHAW since 1993.
