MEDIA ADVISORY

Media guidelines: Portrayal of people living with mental illness and mental health issues in Aotearoa.

The Mental Health Foundation of New Zealand (MHF) has launched media guidelines to equip journalists with the confidence and understanding to report on mental illness and mental health issues safely, accurately and respectfully.

The guidelines were created in collaboration with media and mental health consumer representatives, and informed by evidence-based practice.

The new content including the literature that informed the guidelines, as well as downloadable PDF versions of the full guidelines and checklist are available online.

The next phase includes presentations to major newsrooms and journalism schools around the country, and a member of the MHF communications team will be in touch to arrange this.
